Eeeeek it's beetroot IN A SMOOTHIE!? That's often what I hear. But beetroot is the perfect addition to a smoothie, particularly one with berries. I would choose to blend beet rather than juice it, because you get to keep all the fibre. The fibre in beetroots is SUPER rich in antioxidant increasing properties which help our body function to its maximum.

Beetroot fibre, encourages our body to increase 'Glutathione Peroxidase', one of our main antioxidant enzymes, as well as the number of White Blood Cells (infection fighters). Beetroot is rich in nitrates and is also thought to lower our risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attack and stroke.

To make this beauty, blend together:

40 grams of beet (grate first if not using a Vitamix or similar)

2/3 cup of frozen raspberries

1 peeled orange

1/2 a pear or banana

1/4 of an avocado

1 cup of water

Enjoy!
